A separate futures-development stream
The Futures Lab is separate from both the Professional Courses and the ROH Course Journey. It will present selected future-city environments, demonstrations, field activities and research applications as they become ready for public use.
These scenes will remain part of the ROH game for continuing development. The Unity 6 ROH project is the master development environment. Where it is technically easier and strategically useful, selected scenes or experiences may also be extracted and developed in parallel for the Futures Lab.
Canonical development
ROH retains the authoritative versions of environments, systems and learning interactions. Improvements developed for the game remain available to the wider ROH journey.
Selective extraction
Future-city scenes may later become visual tours, playable demonstrations, council workshops, research pilots or web-based experiences without requiring visitors to complete the full game.
Parallel development
When parallel work is more efficient, the Lab version will follow a shared design specification so that approved discoveries can be incorporated into ROH without fragmenting the underlying vision.
First focus: Redcliffe City of the Future
Redcliffe will provide the initial Futures Lab setting. It brings together place, community, technology, ecology and intergenerational decision-making in a recognisable coastal city context.
- Redcliffe Futures Observatory and future-city perspectives.
- Futures Thinking Kite possibilities and preferred pathways.
- SELECTIONS systems installations across social, economic, legislative, environmental, cultural, technology, industry, organisational, nowlgenesis and sustainability domains.
- IFM, Vinculum, TRAM and community-consultation activities.
- Applied workshops for councils, executives, communities and future generations.
Status: The Redcliffe environment remains under active ROH development. Selected Futures Lab experiences will be released when they are suitable for reliable public use.
Future city portfolio
Additional city scenes will be added progressively. Each scene may support a different strategic question—resilience, mobility, public space, climate adaptation, economic transition, civic trust, technological change or intergenerational legacy—while remaining connected to the book and the wider ROH world.
